Book Marketing Reviews:
PR Leads

What could be better than to have
editors and producers pitch their ideas to YOU -- instead of you
pitching ideas to THEM -- for an upcoming article or talk show,
resulting in a big fat plug for your books - new or old?
Well, that's exactly what PR Leads
does. In the course of a single week I receive 20-30 emails
directly from editors and producers, telling me what they're
working on, and inviting me to participate as an interviewee. In
fact, this service almost single-handedly established my
credentials as an author and consultant by bringing in more
publicity (and sales) for my books than any other promotional
effort. And it's doing the same thing for countless other
authors, consultants and experts who simply don't have the time
to track down editors and politely beg for publicity.
I want to spend my time working on
new products and projects rather than spend hours and hours,
sometimes days, researching markets and opportunities for
promotion. With
PR Leads
I spend about an hour each week reviewing leads and sending
editors and producers a quick email response to their search for
experts and authors. I've been interviewed on dozens of radio
programs (70% "live" via telephone and 30% "taped" for online
streaming audio or other pre-taped shows), and by 100s of
newspaper and magazine editors and writers, including those who
write for wire services and syndications.
There are three things that I
particularly like about PR Leads:
1) It's for individuals, not PR
agencies or firms that represent groups of authors. The editors
and producers are interested in speaking directly to authors and
consultants, in other words, YOU!
2) There's no "secret" to who the
editors are and what publications they represent. You get their
names, the publications they write for, and direct contact
information - no prescreening or blind response emails,
3) Relationships you build with
each contact are yours; put those contacts on your follow up
list and let them know whenever you have something new to share
that would be of interest to their audiences. I have maintained
many long-term media relationships over the years that continue
to be mutually beneficial.
Whether you have a new book to
promote or would like to breathe new life into an old title, if
you want to shorten the time it takes to connect with editors
and producers,

Marketability

This is my self-publisher's go-to
manual whenever I start a new book project. I
have been relying on it for years and it is so ingrained in the
success of my book marketing process that I nearly forgot it
wasn't something I had developed myself ;-)
While most of you know I make my
living as a writer, many of you
don't know that the biggest part of my writing income comes as a
book author and self-publisher. As those of you who have delved
into the wonderful world of getting published already know, to
reap the rewards of any book's sales, the book must be well
marketed. And, regardless of who publishes the book, the
marketing responsibility falls squarely on the author's
shoulders. Publishers will get the books on the shelf; the
authors must figure out how to get them off the shelf through
paying customers or your book will be
banished to out-of-print status.
Kim Dushinksi and Tami DePalma are
pros at helping authors and publishers uncover new and innovative ways to market books,
both before publication and after publication. What sets
them apart is that they have options to accommodate the aspiring
author, the first time author or the experienced author.
While I keep countless writing
resources within reach on my bookshelf, there are fewer than
five resources I rely on for book marketing advice. Kim and
Tami's original Maximum Exposure how-to manual is one
of them. If you are serious about infusing longevity into the
shelf life of your books, take a look at what Kim and Tami have
done for others and might well be able to do for you.

If you want an incredibly inexpensive "idea machine" to jump
start your wheels of motivation, this is it. John Kremer delivers an
astounding 1001 book marketing ideas that will have you saying, "Why
didn't I think of that?" after reading just the first few of the over 700
pages. If there is a downside to this book, it's that there are so
many ideas, you begin to feel overwhelmed, wondering where to start.
Pick a page, any page, and dive in. My copy of John's book is dog-earred
with page after page marked with sticky
notes. You can get your own copy here: 1001
